Job Summary
The Procedural RN is an outpatient position responsible for assisting providers with in-clinic urology procedures, ensuring patient safety, delivering patient education, and performing clinical tasks. This role also serves as an educational resource for Medical Assistants regarding urological procedures and supports training, quality assurance, infection control, and patient care. It also provides clinical coverage as the procedural schedule allows.
Key Responsibilities
- Primary responsibility is to cover the Urology Procedure schedule, ensuring patient flow and adjusting to accommodate add-on patients.
- Monitors patient appointments, flow, and clinic scheduling, communicating any delays or changes with the Clinic Manager.
- Evaluates and assesses patient needs, providing supportive care before, during, and after procedures.
- Provides patient education for all Urology procedures.
- Maintains accurate medical records for documentation of patient care and procedures in the EHR.
- Demonstrates proficiency in Urologic Procedures, including but not limited to Cystoscopies, Bladder/Prostate biopsies, Chemotherapy bladder instillations, and others.
- Oversees supply and equipment levels, maintaining stock, monitoring expiration dates, and coordinating repairs or replacements as needed.
- Ensures sterility and cleanliness of equipment and procedure rooms, adhering to sterile/aseptic techniques.
- Educates staff on proper techniques, quality requirements, and equipment maintenance, ensuring compliance with OSHA guidelines and PPE usage.
- Escalates emergencies to management and implements necessary emergency protocols, including calling 911 when required.
- Identifies areas for process improvement to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
- Promotes teamwork, professional behavior, and customer service excellence.
- Acts as a resource for staff regarding patient care and collaborates across service lines.
- Ensures compliance with organizational policies, including training, HIPAA, OSHA, and CLIA requirements.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher in Nursing, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Current and valid D.C. Registered Nurse license or proof of application for licensure.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
- Previous OR, Med/Surg, or procedural nursing experience preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to sit, walk, reach, bend, or twist for extended periods in a clinical setting.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 100 lbs. as part of the role.
- Regular exposure to healthcare environments requiring personal protective equipment.
- Manual dexterity required for operating medical and office equipment.
