Job Summary
The Packaging Engineer plays a critical role in enabling efficient bulk pilot and fill line trials, serving as a liaison between various teams to support formula development and packaging. This position is vital in transitioning lab formulas to production, optimizing processes for successful production runs.
Key Responsibilities
- Support line trials by leading and tracking execution, identifying potential issues, and sharing findings with stakeholders.
- Assist Quality and Operations in developing equipment specifications for commercial production runs.
- Evaluate packaging suitability and compatibility, ensuring resources and equipment will support successful production runs.
- Assess packaging for new projects and changes in existing components.
- Coordinate packaging components with Operations, RID, and Quality Assurance teams.
- Support bulk pilot and first production runs, coordinating with operations for batching and filling.
- Create manufacturing instructions and line trial protocols to identify process control parameters.
- Develop equipment process and packaging workflows at various stages of the product lifecycle.
- Train Compounders and Supervisors on new processes and packaging procedures.
- Collaborate with RID scientists on formulation requirements to ensure manufacturing success.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a relevant engineering or R&D field, ideally within the FMCG industry.
- Master’s degree in engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Experience in CPGs, especially in skin care, home, beauty, and personal care product technologies.
- Proven experience in process or packaging engineering in a GMP environment.
- Knowledge of bulk processes, packing equipment principles, and sustainable design.
- Experience with designing sustainable and customer-experience focused packaging solutions.
- Knowledge of innovation management workflows in the personal care business.
- Effective communication skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Project and time management skills to coordinate multiple work streams and timelines.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in engineering or R&D, ideally in the FMCG industry.
- Specific experience in process or packaging engineering within a GMP environment.
Skills
- Technical skills in process and packaging engineering.
- Soft skills in communication, critical thinking, and project management.
Additional Requirements
- Physical ability to regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds.
