Job Title: Medical Assistant

Job Description:
- Greets the patient and escorts them from the waiting room to the exam rooms
- Prepares patients for exams or treatment takes history
- Puts charts up for physicians when the patient is ready in exam room
- Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments, assists physicians in preparing for examinations and minor procedures
- Pre-certifies surgical and other procedures, if appropriate
- Schedules tests and off site procedures when necessary, Communicates physician referral requests to referral staff for processing,
- Disposes of contaminated items according to OSHA guidelines
- Obtains and handles laboratory specimens according to CLIA guidelines
- Takes medical stock inventory and communicates supply shortages to Manager
- Prepares samples for transport to reference lab completes appropriate requisition paperwork for processing and billing of specimens
- Ensures that laboratory samples are picked up by the reference laboratory daily
- Cleans and closes down equipment at the end of the day, making sure all cabinets are locked
- Monitors logs of specimens collected and sent to reference lab-ensures reports are returned from the reference lab in a timely manner
- Directs lab results to physician for review and treatment plan
- Takes patient phone calls, returns calls to patient after conferring with physician, charts phone calls, calls pharmacies and other healthcare professionals as directed by physicians
- Maintains patient confidentiality, complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
6+ months expereince *internship applies*
Schedule/ Shift:
Monday - Friday 8:30am-5pm
