Job Title: Medical Assistant

Job Description:

• Greets the patient and escorts them from the waiting room to the exam rooms
• Prepares patients for exams or treatment takes history
• Puts charts up for physicians when the patient is ready in exam room
• Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments, assists physicians in preparing for examinations and minor procedures
• Pre-certifies surgical and other procedures, if appropriate
• Schedules tests and off site procedures when necessary, Communicates physician referral requests to referral staff for processing,
• Disposes of contaminated items according to OSHA guidelines
• Obtains and handles laboratory specimens according to CLIA guidelines
• Takes medical stock inventory and communicates supply shortages to Manager
• Prepares samples for transport to reference lab completes appropriate requisition paperwork for processing and billing of specimens
• Ensures that laboratory samples are picked up by the reference laboratory daily
• Cleans and closes down equipment at the end of the day, making sure all cabinets are locked
• Monitors logs of specimens collected and sent to reference lab-ensures reports are returned from the reference lab in a timely manner
• Directs lab results to physician for review and treatment plan
• Takes patient phone calls, returns calls to patient after conferring with physician, charts phone calls, calls pharmacies and other healthcare professionals as directed by physicians
• Maintains patient confidentiality, complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

6+ months expereince *internship applies*

Schedule/ Shift:

Monday - Friday 8:30am-5pm
